Regular blog updates

So, in a recent meeting of the ACM, it was decided that we should have regular blog updates in order to get people checking the site with any modicum of regularity. It is therefore that I pledge to you that, as your treasurer, I will work to update this blog at least once a week with ACM news, CS department gossip, and semicoherent rantings about whatever happens to be on my mind at the time.

Semicoherent Ranting:
Warren and I spent a while talking during the most recent officer meeting. Seeing as Warren is graduating soon, he has become a veritable fount of ideas. One of the biggest he has had is rethinking this site. We would like to create an online community (The Colony) for neophyte CS type people in the Triangle / Triad area (which actually creates a rough trapezoid across the center of North Carolina with Elon approximately in the center). The Colony's amenities would include blogs like this one for officers of member ACMs, webspace for all members, forums, and other such good nonsense.

Other good ideas include a free, ticket based tech support service to compete with Elite, and a couple other things I can't immediately remember.

EDIT: Oh yeah! One more thing. We want to make an internship job listing service for students and alumns in the Trapezoid.

This is Chris for this week, signing off.

Interesting thought. It could also let former members who check the site when bored (like...me) connect with other CS people from various parts of NC, and offer our own help with tech support issues despite not physically being in the region. Plus, developing something like that would give ACM more "geek cred", which is always nice.

that was the general idea :)

we should go ahead and invite other local chapters to use the site once we get the bugs worked out.
