duke gaming event

We received this from Duke:
The ACM is planning a Gaming event for Saturday Dec. 10 from 2pm-10pm. They will need to use all the classrooms/meeting rooms in the LSRC D-wing: D243, D106, D344, D301 and possibly D240.

Note this is the Saturday before finals start.

The event will have gaming industry/educational speakers, as well as LAN gaming, Console games, and recreational games.

This is an all-day charity event sponsored by Duke ACM in partnership with DAGGER and Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

I'm forwarding to you in case you want to find out more about it, or in case you want to know how other schools handle large gaming events.

Becoming a member

There was a comment on the Group Project post as to how to become a member of the Elon ACM chapter. There are at least two ways you can do this: 1) come to one of our weekly Tuesday afternoon meetings (at 1600 in the CS Lobby, 3d floor of Duke) and sign up; or 2) email the treasurer (Warren Myers) and arrange a different meeting time. The chapter dues are $10, which covers every event and activity we do on campus.

If you're interested in becoming a member of the main ACM organization in addition to the local chapter, go the registration website and sign up with them, then follow one of the above methods to join Elon's chapter. National membership is annual and runs between $19 and $62, depending on what version you choose.

Please note, however, national membership does not automatically get you local membership, and vice-versa. You also do not have to become a national member to join us locally.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the officers (listed on the right) or our faculty advisor.

Road to Red Hat

Hey guys. So Google doesn't want us to be their pizza ambassadors and ambassadresses. Big whoop. Anyone up for a Red Hat road trip? I'm thinking a van full of geeks, a 60-mile drive, free pizza, and hot chicks. Well 3 out of 4 ain't bad...

The Road to Red Hat

Interested? Take the Road to Red Hat...
When? 3rd or 4th Monday of each month
UPCOMING GUEST SPEAKERS:
October 24 – to be determined
November 28 – to be determined
Time? 5:30PM (PROMPTLY) - 7:00 PM
Where? Red Hat, Centennial Campus, 1801 Varsity Drive, Raleigh

Are you aware that one of the leading technology companies of the 21st century is in your backyard? Are you knowledgable about Linux and open source? Did you know that Red Hat hosts one of the premier summer internship programs in the Triangle? And have you heard that Red Hat
started a co-op program for engineering students in January 2005?
Find out more by taking the 'Road to Red Hat'. Monthly, Red Hat will host 'Road to Red Hat' events at its Centennial Campus headquarters. There will be PIZZA, guest speakers and Red Hat representatives on-site. In addition, Red Hat will give away an open enrollment RHCE-track class seat to a lucky attendee.

It's been said that Red Hat is the largest small company in the world. With more than 900 Red Hatters across 26 offices worldwide, we rarely think of ourselves as small. Until you consider our competition. We stand among giants – competing and partnering with companies many times our size.

Despite our relative size, our continued success is proof of the power of the open source model. We pride ourselves on collaboration, openness, and the exponential value that comes from joining people of different perspectives to find the best way.

Open source forms the foundation of our company's culture because open source is changing the world. In our industry, it returns the balance of power to the customer. In our society, it exposes people to technology who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

see members list

I was able to fix the members list now that Megan altered my edit status, so the new list of 05-06 members should be to the right.
