06-07 budget

I don't have in front of me at the moment, but we have a budget for the 06-07 school year. When Matt and I went to present our budget proposal to the SGA, we both agreed that it went very well, and were hopeful we'd get most of what we asked for.

Unfortunately, we didn't get as much of a boost as we had hoped. We did get a boost, and a collapsing of the line items as per our proposal, but the overall change is only about 5% instead of our hoped-for 25-60%.

The good news from this, though, is that there were about 10% more organizations asking for money from the SGA, whose budget-granting powers were only raised by about 3%. This means that most organizations stayed flat, or even lost budget allotments - so I think we should be happy we got an increase :)

For the upcoming academic year, the ACM has a budget of $808, with $168 ear-marked for national memebrships for officers, and the rest split into conferences and events.

If you have any specific questions about the new budget, or the status of this year's remaining budget, please fell free to ask me either via email (wmyers2 at elon dot edu), or in the comments of this post.

t-shirts

1. Shirts need to be decided on by next Tuesday so I can order them.

2. So far, we've decided on a grey shirt with black writing and Phlux on the front pocket area (but no pocket!)

3. We've kicked around several design ideas.

Please discuss your design ideas in the comments for this message.

Edited to add: REMEMBER THAT THESE ARE DEPARTMENT-WIDE SHIRTS, not just ACM shirts.

t-shirts

1. T-shirts have to be ordered by the end of the month in order to be paid for by the CS dept. We have a $500 t-shirt budget. We can agree on a discount price for non-ACM members to get their t-shirts.

2. I propose that we discuss t-shirt designs on Thurs. Phlux is adorable, perhaps it would be enough to have a small phlux logo on the front and some sort of humorous tagline on the back?

3. I still have a t-shirt in my office leftover from last year. For a while it had a post-it note on it that said "Eric Hydrick" but that fell off at some point. Eric, do you want this shirt? It is size L.

LAN party wrap-up

First off, thanks to everyone who contributed to get this thing off the ground and make it a rousing success!

We had at least 55 people in attendance throughout the evening (not counting ACM memebrs), and almost everyone I spoke with wanted to know when we were going to have another one! Matt's bracket arrangement, in conjunction with Stephen's laptop, and Ed's help, worked great to keep people informed as to who was playing next, how the tournaments were progressing, etc.

Having spare consoles (an Xbox 360, 2 GameCubes, a PS2) and an entire lab set up with Starcraft and Unreal was great to keep people active while they weren't playing in their tournament.

Thanks to Anthony from SUB for handling drinks from Coke. Thanks also to our sponsors: nVIDIA, Google, Bawls, and Alienware for drinks, swag, and food. Since all of our events are non-alcoholic, Campus Rec helped provide prizes with their Low Risk Grant. As an organization, we encourage low-risk behavior, and appreciate Campus Rec's joining us in that on this event. We look forward to working with all of you again in the future.

We'll have pictures soon on our F3 history page, so check back often.

I agree with Eric and think that about the only thing we need next time is some kind of intercom arrangement to get the next teams into their respective rooms for the tournaments. This could be as simple as using TalkAbout radios - any other ideas on how to implement this?

Great job, guys (and gals), I'm looking forward to our next event!

meeting reminder

Hey folks.

As a reminder, this week's meeting will be held Thursday, 6 April, not today, 4 April, due to convocation.

I will be at this week's meeting to discuss conference plans, go over our budget (if we've received it by then), etc.
