the continuing saga...of the magstripe reader

Ok. Guys. Remember the magstripe reader? The good news: It works.

It was actually quite easy, assuming you completely ignore the directions in the plans. Ha ha. Also, we haven't made the parallel port adapter (we tested it directly to a game port), so that helped a bit. The whole thing took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and that includes assembly, downloading the software, and running about 20 cards through.

The bad news is: I didn't find anything particularly exciting on any of my own cards, aside from my Phoenix card which did have a 7 digit numeric value labeled "encrypted pin". Hmmmm. I don't remember assigning a pin to my Phoenix card. Did I just forget? How can we figure out what this number is?

I'll try very hard to remember to bring this thing in on Tuesday. Also the Oreo cookies that I forgot last week.

substance education grants

I wasn't sure where to post this, so in case you all are looking for the paperwork to get a substance-free grant for the next LAN party, go here: Elon University - Substance Education. NOTE: you have to meet with a Substance Education team leader two weeks before the event, so make sure you fill out this paperwork in advance.
